Dear North

Dear North began as an idea to bring the unique flavors and culture of Alaska to its lower 48 neighbors. A snack portfolio of unique flavor combinations and product formats, ranging from Coriander & Malabar Pepper Smoked Salmon to Fish and Chips crisps. Ammunition worked with Dear North to create a product strategy, brand identity, and packaging.

Initial concepts were broad and diverse since no existing products or packaging existed for Dear North. Unique packaging formats that optimized the eating experience but also expressed the brand language and culture were the packaging goals. Adding elements of customization to stock packaging, both met cost targets while achieving a unique package in a crowded market. Creating a flexible solution of stock bags and custom labels kept this project within cost and on time, able to react quickly to product formulation changes.

Prototyping

For this project physical prototyping was quickest and most effective to evaluate concepts, versus typical digital concept renderings. Label shape and size for jars, and bag sizes based on “handful” measurements were immediately mocked up.
